Reality TV and other forms of entertainment

Yelling in the A.M. does not make for a very cheery wake-up call. My family has quite a few issues and I'm not getting into them. I stay in the room to catch up on two episodes of "Real Chance of Love," which I was always thought was "Real Chance at Love." Oh well, I guess it doesn't even need to make grammatical sense. Rabbit was my favorite, but she's out. :( You can read Bourgy, a blog "where smart people dumb down!" :) They keep me up on all the reality TV drama.

I haven't watched "Bromance" or "The City" or any spin-off from "Laguna Beach." Actually, my reality TV sphere includes the spin-offs of "Flavor of Love" though I stopped watching the original after the second time around. I watched "I Love New York" twice and "I Love Money." Since it's the holiday, I caught up on "Real Chance of Love," but my other fave isn't a VH1 show, it's a SpikeTV show called "The Ultimate Fighter." :) Yup. We haven't had cable at the Asheville house so I've indulged here whenever possible. I've missed out though.

What else do I watch on TV? "CSI," "I Love Lucy," etc. I haven't even started "Gossip Girls" nor did I watch "Sex and the City." My cousins were watching "Prison Break" when I visited and it wasn't shabby. I just never have the discipline to watch shows especially if they involve a long, drawn out story and thus, lots of attention.

Anyways, I thought I'd update on my TV watching. Nothing good has been on HGTV by the way. I guess it's off-season for TV shows. :(

This morning I voted for VH1's 2008 Scandalist Awards to reminisce about the year. Here are my votes:

  • Sexiest: Scarlett Jo, Marissa Miller, Megan Fox, Eva Mendes
  • Curviest: Kim K., Coco, Jodie Marsh, Beyonce
  • Fugliest: Perez Hilton, PCD, Brooke Hogan, Katie Holmes
  • Cutest Kid: Valentina, Kingston Rossdale, Shiloh, Suri
  • Douchiest: Miley, Adnan Ghalib, Michael Lohan, Spencer & Heidi
  • Funniest: Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, Sarah Palin
  • Boringest: Jonas Bros, Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez, Rachel Bilson
  • Sluttiest: Angelique, John Mayer, Chuck Bass, Aubrey O'Day
  • Freshest: Blake Lively, Karissa & Kristina Shannon, Sarah Palin, Britney

I enjoyed most mainstream songs from 2008, but there are quite a few songs I could never quite get into
  • Mariah Carey - "Touch My Body"
  • T.I. feat. Rihanna - "Live Your Life"
  • Anything Beyonce has put out this year, seriously!

...and it's time for MIA's "Paper Planes" to retire!

I still haven't watched "Dark Knight" or read/watched "Twilight." I am considering catching up on some TV shows like "Prison Break" after seeing an episode, testing out "Gossip Girls" to see what all the rave is about, and maybe catching up on "Desperate Housewives," maybe. I can't seem to get into the loop, but I like action and I think "Prison Break" can deliver!

Nerd alert!

Yup, I have glasses now. Apparently, after years on the computer and in school, I am nearsighted. Not bad considering I was born with a computer attached. :) Oh well, I don't look too bad... I think.

Resolutions 2009

Okay okay, so 2009 is coming in 3 days and I thought I should make a banging list of resolutions.

The first three are goals for January and if I can take it, beyond...

  • No fries.
  • No chips.
  • No candy.
  • Eat better. (5 Healthy Breakfast Recipes and other wonderful guides from Whole Living)
  • Run 2 times a week.
  • Work out 4 times a week.
  • Sleep early. As in, before midnight.
  • Read a book a month. This is a tough thing to do with all the reading I already have.
  • Stop buying magazines. Instead, sit at the bookstore for hours and read them if necessary. :)
  • Learn to knit.
  • Stop going out to eat.
  • Use a check register to keep track of my finances.
  • Less partying and drinking? This is iffy, but I need to get my sleep. How about once a week and never on weekdays.
  • Do the dishes everyday.
  • Keep the house clean. More of this later because I'll need small steps to achieve this one.
I'll add more ASAP. One of the big goals of course is to lose weight. I did a great 25 pounds last year and I need another 25 pounds until I get to a good, healthy weight. I think that my mini-resolutions help to achieve the ultimate goal.

The Iceman is coming...

For those of you who don't know, I'm a big MMA fan. No, I didn't get to watch it last night. :( But because I didn't, I went to Barnes and Noble where I found out that on January 9th, when I'm still here, Chuck Liddell will be signing his book! I'M GOING! :)

I wanted to read this one but they were out of stock at my Barnes and Noble in Asheville. Instead, I psychoanalyzed Randy Couture and his bio, Becoming the Natural for my personality paper. Yance thinks Liddell is cooler and apparently, he parties a lot.

I think I'll have to add a MMA/sports section to my book collection...

Speaking of books, I also added a book to my wish list after my latest visit to the store:
The Gentle Art of Domesticity

Reading The Friday Night Knitting Club, which I'm more than halfway through, I now want to knit again. I suck at it. I'm slow and I get upset because I'm terrible. It's not soothing, but I love seeing the completed project. Maybe I'll try again? Oh yeah, Knit Two is out just as I'm reading the first one! :( Anyways, I'll update on knitting and domesticity... :)

*P.S. happy mundane found Umbra Loft at Target!

Blu Dot chairs

I'm a big Blu Dot fan. Cheaper than what you can normally find for modern furniture and cute, I love their Cozy Cozy chairs and Making it Lovely is featuring the Real Good Chair in her Making it Yours series where the chairs make it from an owner's moves from home to home.

This accompanying video on how to put it together is funny/cute...

New purchases: Kate Spade purse and wallet

Kate Spade Savona Bri was $375, got it for $144.20. :) It was on sale at the store for $206 plus 30% off!

Also, I bought a wallet. Haven't found a picture of it, but I absolutely LOVE it!

I wanted Pasadena Remy wallet more, but it was pricier than the bag. :(

Ever since my purchase of Kate Spade plates, I've started loving the brand.

M.S., you are hot.

I'm always awake and online in the mornings and since I've been sleeping early, not so much at night. Well, this morning I was on facebook of course and today I decided to look up a guy I had a crush on in 7th grade. I spent about 30 minutes looking at his pictures. I often regret liking people in middle or high school. We were pretty dumb back then. However, he is one guy I don't regret liking. Also, I never did anything really dumb. :) Anyways, he looks hot and that's not it, I envy his life as it seems in pictures.

I wish college was a little better, that I didn't pine away good years with weird friends freshman year or study/work so much I forgot I'm young. But then I think about it all and I can't be who I'm not. Who I am is who I am except I can't wear what I want because I don't want to be one of the girls who wear clothes too small or show their rolls. Gross. But I have this hidden passion for clothes and design. I think I've let my personality shine recently.

I just wish I had his kind of friends. Most of them are white but California cool, adventurous, fun. I want a multicultural group of friends. I love that my friends now include people like Yancey, Van, Kim, Peter, and Albert, etc. I love my friends now but I wish we were a little more adventurous. I'm rather not. I don't do much. I'm a so-so type of person and that's no fun.

Well, my New Year's Resolution includes resolving that problem. My other resolutions are coming. Oh, working out will be one especially after looking at that guy. :) Niceeee.

Julie & Van, Christmas Crashers

Christmas Day ended up being fun after I had to endure 5 hours at a relative's house. Everyone is either older or way younger. After leaving for a bit to go to the Korean market, eating yogurt, and reading many chapters of The Friday Night Knitting Club, I left. Van called me immediately after, which begins Van and Julie's Christmas!

I met up with her at Walgreens. She persuaded me to buy some kind of eyeliner even though I told her last time I used liquid eyeliner, I almost poked myself in the eye. However, she was super excited because it's her fave so I'm giving it a try.

We headed to Albert's afterwards. He was cooking... with his family. They're such a cute little Korean family! Van knows how to say 'hi' in Korean so grandma and uncle were trying to speak to her in Korean. "No Korean," she had to say. We met Albert's cousins, one who somehow acquired a Vietnamese fob accent and mannerisms (haha) and some adorable toddlers!

Then off to Kim's sisters for the annual dinner. Good food that totally killed us especially since Van and I had stopped by Alerto's to share a California burrito. :/ We're foodies. Lots of conversations later, we went back to Albert's. We were going to watch a movie, but I needed to get home early so I promised Van we'd come visit (Kim, Albert, and I) when Van lets us know which days she gets off at 6 instead of 9. I'm excited, but I need to buy a copy of "My Sassy Girl" and possibly some pomegranite hand sanitizer Van was raving about.

Today is like another black Friday. I'm staying at home and relaxing. The extra sleep and weird pillow gave me a headache though... :(

Expensive wish list

Not a fan of the inside though. :(

Christmas Day Excitement: More Ways to Waste Time

I'm not normally link-y, but I woke up at 8am and found some ultra-cool things online, particularly a new fave blog - More Ways to Waste Time! I haven't even had time to browse through EVERYTHING! :/ Finding good, new blogs is pretty darn exciting. :)

One last one... the blogger's remodel of her daughter's room.

I'd consider moving to NorCal for one of the gorgeous houses I've seen here and there.

Well, time to go off to Christmas celebrations! I'll update, maybe with pictures of family members and their kids I can't recognize. :(

Saying no to silver trees

I'm all about silver, but Yance and I are gaudy when it comes to Christmas. I can't say this about myself, but Yancey is rarely gaudy. He's a minimalist, but when Christmas comes around, he loves color and cheer.

(via Ideal Home)

The only thing he can't stand is the music. We have separate, conflicting memories. I have this plug-in that plays music with the lights and it reminds me of my childhood. However, Yance's mom used to buy the lights with music and hangs them outside. They were never long enough so she had to buy multiple ones and string them together. Of course, they played different songs at different times. Haha. Therefore, Yancey won't let me plug-in my cheery music. :(

Rascal Flatts - "I'll Be Home for Christmas"

A night out?!

Last night, after Van finally got back from LA, we went to Dave and Busters. We made happy hour and got two drinks apiece (only Van and I). We got to keep the TnTea glasses that cost us quite a bit. Van also ordered an appetizer trio for 4 (hah) and Kim got some delicious tortilla soup. The bathrooms were super dirty - someone left a bottle in the bathroom. We also went to Walmart with Albert for no apparent reason since Van and I fell asleep in the car. I heard all sorts of strange yelling outside.

Kim has work today so does my whole family (except my mom). I didn't know the bank was open on Christmas Eve and that people actually worked. I remember everyone having the day off!

Peter told me about Famima!! the other day. It's near his house and on the way to my aunt's from Kim's. I stopped by. It's a "Japanese 7 Eleven" according to Peter. They have sushi, tiramisu, and other Asian snacks in addition to all the regular stuff. I walked around and just got some cheap 16 oz chai for $1.50. Not bad especially when my tall caramel chai cost $3 at Starbucks. Though Starbucks has an Orange County mug I want ($10).

Want: reasonable, white car

MINI Cooper - kind of English

Nissan 350Z - not reasonable but sweeet!

Toyota Prius - saving the environment kind of

Scion tC - Peter said he'd disown me if I bought one. I want to see if his threat is valid.

Subaru WRX STi - OR Peter and I can be twins!

Toyota Corolla - back to being reasonable

Volkswagen Jetta - clean, smooth like the Scion :)
